Episode 9 - First Time I Watched “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

image

No matter what your favorite television show there was a first time you saw that show. This week I invited my good friends Bill, Emily, Erica, and Jay into (and in some cases back into) the First Times Studio to talk about the first time we ever saw the Joss Whedon series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Some of us started at the beginning, some of us came to the show much later, but we are all unified in our undying adoration for one of the best series ever created. Spoiler alert: there are a couple times we attempt to sing lines form the musical episode. You have been warned.

Show Topics?

What are some fun, interesting, intriguing, heartfelt, and/or moving First Times topics we can tackle in future shows? Keep in mind the sex one is coming eventually. Probably for my 100th “Very Special Episode.”

Episode 8 - First Time I Gave Birth

image

It may shock you to know that I have in fact never given birth to a human child. YET. Anyway, I’m still curious about the details so I invited my good friend Rachel into the First Times Studio to give me the down and dirty details about the process of delivering a child into the world. She had limited time so this episode is short on content but long on talk of body fluids. Spoiler alert: the term “mucous plug” is used freely and without comedic overtones.

Episode 7 - First Time I Knew I Was an Atheist

image

Gentle listeners, as you may or may not know I am a devout Atheist. Whereas many of you may believe the same, many of you probably believe in a higher power. Whatever your belief system I hope there was a journey toward that revelation. This week I invited one of my besties, Joey, into the First Times Studio to share when we first came to the realization that there is no God. Spoiler alert: it was right around the time White Chicks hit number one at the box office.

Episode 6 - First Time I Saw the “Alien” Franchise

image

If you’re an awesome human being you obviously love the “Alien” films (some of them more than others). Obviously “Alien” and “Aliens” are near perfect films but there are several others that are contentious at best. This week I invited my buddy Jay into the First Times Studio to talk about how we first saw these films and how they changed our lives for the better. While some of you may not love the movies as much as Jay and I I can assure you that you’ll love hearing us talk about them. Enjoy!

Episode 5 - First Time I Knew I Wasn’t A Straight, White Male

imageThis week I invited one of my best Twitter friends, Oestrus, into the First Times Studio to talk about the first time we realized we were not straight, white males. While we are both white, being not straight has kept us out of the White House for the time being. While I am a raging, militant homosexual, Oestrus is a delicate flower of a transgendered woman. Growing up and coming out are always different for everyone and we each share our stories and hope you’ll do the same.

Episode 4 - First Time I Got a Job

imageOf all the topics we’ve covered to date this one is the great equalizer, unless you’re a Romney. All of us have had a first job and all of those first jobs have sucked donkey balls. This week I invited Andy in from Hear Andy Talk to discuss our first job experiences and finally come clean about all the stuff we stole. Enjoy!!

Episode 3 - First Time I Attended a Convention

imageThis week Merrill Barr from The Idiot Boxers Podcast joined me in the First Times Studio to talk about his original convention experience. Merrill and I are both snobby, elitist, East Coasters so our convention experience pales in comparison to many San Diego Comicon-goers but we still reveled in the geekery. We also got a slue of responses from fans.

Episode 2 - First Time I Saw a Movie in the Theater

imageThis week I was joined in the First Times Studio by Tina Seamonster to talk about the first time we remember seeing a movie in the theater. Whereas mine is a vague recollection of three women with perms kidnapping their boss Tina’s is a heartfelt story about a bonding experience with her father which shaped her entire life.

This time around we have contributions from the following listeners:
Christopher Edwards @Xtopher1974
Melissa Esposito - @Craftgasm Craftgasm.etsy.com
RJ Dennis - @RJDennis RJDennis.Net
Corky:  @dj_corky2001
Scott Fogel (no web presence, just generally awesome in real life).

Episode 1 - First Time Doing Stand-Up Comedy

For our inaugural episode I invited good friend of the show Matty Field into the First Time Studio to talk about our first time doing stand-up comedy. While most people’s memory of their first time doing stand-up is a hazy mess clouded by adrenaline and alcohol Matty’s first time is recorded for all the world to see (see above). Whereas I failed miserably my first time Matty won a competition on his first night and is well on his way to becoming a star. Meanwhile I’m still doing podcasts and crying myself to sleep on my tear soaked pillow every night.

Regardless we both did it and recommend that you do it as well.

Friends of the show also sent in their stories and I have no doubt each of them will be a huge star. This first time is about facing fears and each one of these people did that and no matter how it went they already won.
